Finally, an Alpha Energy Solutions Golf Scramble featured sunny skies and glorious weather. For the previous two years, rain and cool temperatures marred the event, held annually at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Sellersburg, Ind.
With a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30 a.m., 28 foursomes teed off in the 12th Annual Scramble just as the sun was rising. The winning score of 56 was turned in by a team from American Synthetic — Ronnie Underwood, Terry Peabody, Dan Cox, and Donny Shaffer. Chad Werra won the Long Drive Contest. Closest to the Pin winners were Brian Sur and Tara Blake.
Sun Belt Rentals held a driving contest, using a waffle ball for a set of ladders. Vendors generously sponsored holes and provided prizes.
Ben Rhodes, the NASCAR Xfinity driver who is making his Series debut on May 17 in Iowa, was on hand with his #88 Alpha Energy Solutions show car. Rhodes, who is not a golfer, offered participants a chance to “Outdrive the Driver” on hole #1. Everyone was a winner there and will get tickets to Kentucky Speedway races this summer.
After a delicious buffet lunch, dozens of prizes were awarded to participants, ranging from golf balls, clubs, and head covers to tickets to Kentucky Speedway races. There were even a couple of fishing poles in the prize stash.
