Alpha was a featured exhibitor at the Jeffersontown Chamber’s Business Expo on March 15. The Expo included more than 100 businesses offering their products and services at the Ramada Plaza. At the Alpha booth, hundreds of business professionals learned about Alpha’s services. Despite the distraction of U of L playing in the NCAA Tournament during the Expo, attendance was steady throughout the day.

One of the day’s highlights was a luncheon presentation by the Kentucky Chamber’s president, David Adkisson. The chamber represents Kentucky businesses of all sizes in helping to shape official policy, and with the state legislature in session, Adkisson’s comments were particularly timely.
With time running out in the current session in Frankfort, Adkisson outlined a few proposals that he thinks could benefit Kentucky businesses that are doable right now before the session ends. Among them is a bill that would improve career and technical education programs to help ensure that students develop workplace skills.
Others on Adkisson’s list addressed unemployment insurance, angel investment, prescription drug abuse, local taxation, and pension reform.
An audience member questioned Adkisson about the recently-defeated proposal to allow casinos through Kentucky. Adkisson said that the Chamber was for legalized gambling and said the recent Kentucky Senate vote was closer than it seemed. But he said a combination of moral concerns and politics kept the bill from passing.
