Alpha Energy Solutions Bed Race team did not defend its title. Still, everyone involved had a great time, and the company got plenty of local media exposure at the Kentucky Derby Festival event at Broadbent Arena.
Alpha’s team of pushers from Heuser Health supplied the human power, and Lori Rhodes replaced her son Ben Rhodes as the driver. Ben could not attend because he was practicing with the #88 Alpha Energy Solutions race team in Chicago.
Alpha won the race last year with a time of 33.41 seconds on the Figure 8 track. This year, the Alpha team was the first of 40 teams to compete and posted an impressive time of 34.37, less than a second slower than the winners from Texas Roadhouse, who posted a 33.45. The team Bluegrass Indoor Karting finished 2nd at 34.24 in the Champions division.
The event was broadcast live on WAVE-TV in Louisville.
Before the race, Alpha team members and their families enjoyed tailgating on a beautiful day.
