How does NeedlePoint Bipolar Ionization work?

NeedlePoint Bipolar Ionization is a recent technology that has just been installed on each HVAC unit on the rooftops. NeedlePoint Bipolar Ionization technology cleans the air within buildings in a safe manner. It purifies the indoor air in two ways: 1) it increases particle size, making them simpler to filter, and 2) it destroys diseases such as COVID-19 and other airborne bacteria and viruses. NPBI is utilized in cleanrooms, hospitals, offices, airports, schools, arenas, aircraft, and veterinary offices, among other places. Covid-19 and most other airborne infections are killed in 98 percent of cases.

How NeedlePoint Bipolar Ionization Works

Needlepoint bipolar ionization (NBPI) is a type of ionization that is used to purify the air. Positive and negative ions are distributed through the air via the NBPI system, targeting and eliminating viruses, fungi, and bacteria. Particles clump together (particle agglomeration) as a result of NBPI, which enhances filtering efficiency. Finally, it oxidizes odorous gases, converting them to odorless essential compounds.

It’s worth mentioning that ions are found naturally in the atmosphere. An NBPI system works by increasing the number of ions in the air to the point where viruses are inactivated.

An NBPI device is generally positioned on the air handling unit’s upstream side of the coil. It took roughly a day to install the Karpinski, plus time to connect it to the building automation system (BAS) to obtain system performance statistics.

The NBPI device we chose can be adapted into almost any structure. This technology has the benefit of using relatively minimal power — any voltage between 24-240V. At the air handling unit, such control is virtually undoubtedly accessible. The device requires extremely minimal maintenance in the long run.

How Do You Know NeedlePoint Bipolar Ionization Effective?

We assess the total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) in an area to see how successful Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization is. The amount of TVOCs in a place seems proportional to the number of bacteria and viruses present. The lower the amount of TVOCs, the fewer bacteria and viruses are current, and vice versa.

It’s comparable to how we utilize CO2 levels to assess whether or not a space is occupied. Under 500 ppm is a good objective for TVOCs.

Is it safe?

There is a distinct difference between needlepoint bi-polar ionization (NPBI) and corona discharge ionization (CDI). There is no dielectric in NPBI. To avoid the production of ozone, the power output is limited to less than 12.07eV. Ozone-free certifications for GPS’ NPBI technology have been issued by UL 867 and UL 2998, respectively.

What else do we gain?

Odor Control: NPBI devices create ions that break down odorous and occasionally hazardous gases by reducing them to chemicals or molecules already present in the environment, such as oxygen, nitrogen, water vapor, and carbon dioxide.

Outside Air Reduction Saves Energy – Currently, the interior air is filtered by diluted with “clean” air brought in from outside by the HVAC system. Instead of bringing in outside air, NPBI cleans the air within. We save energy because the outside air being brought inside does not need to be cooled or heated.
